Boarding schools need a food operation that runs seven days a week, through weekends, public holidays and exam periods. Cater Minds takes responsibility for the whole operation: our chefs cook on site in the school's kitchen, our floor team manages each sitting, and we bring the supply chain, rostering, training and compliance systems of an established catering business.
Back-of-house operation
A head chef, brigade and kitchen hands employed, rostered and trained by Cater Minds.
Allergen Safety
Highly controlled, separated kitchen preparation environments.
Established supply chain
Long-standing supplier relationships, group purchasing and seasonal Australian produce.
Service scaled to the school calendar
Reduced service during holidays and exam weeks, matched to the number of students on campus.

(Menu/food-related)
Families receive the weekly menu, allergen information and a termly dining summary. Whether a family lives two hours away or overseas, they can see how their child is being fed.

01
Monitoring and management
Plate and production waste is weighed and recorded at each service. The data is reviewed weekly with the school and used to adjust purchasing, batch cooking and menu design.
02
Portion guidance
Serving sizes are set with our dietitians and adjusted from what students actually eat. Flexible portions and a seconds policy reduce plate waste without leaving anyone hungry.
03
Student education
Our on-site team runs waste awareness activities with boarders: visible waste tallies in the dining hall, sorting stations, and sessions tied to the school's sustainability curriculum.

Reducing food waste, together
Working with our university partners, we have developed a food waste program that combines measurement, kitchen practice and student participation. It is now part of every education contract we operate.

Our commitments
The principles that shape how we source, cook and serve in education settings.
Cross-cultural dining
Boarding communities bring together students from many cultures and faiths. Our menus include halal and vegetarian options every day, observe religious dietary requirements, and rotate familiar dishes from the regions our students come from, so the dining hall feels inclusive rather than uniform.
Respect for Indigenous culture
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we cook and serve. Our menus incorporate native Australian ingredients sourced through Indigenous suppliers where possible, and we work with schools to support NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week and curriculum programs through food.
Environmental responsibility
We prioritise local and seasonal produce, responsible packaging and energy-conscious kitchen practices, and provide environmental reporting that schools can include in their own sustainability commitments. Our food waste program is described below.
Ethical and responsible sourcing
We work with long-standing Australian suppliers who meet our standards for animal welfare, labour practices and traceability. Sourcing decisions are documented and available to partner schools.
Standards and duty of care
Boarding is a duty-of-care environment. Our systems are designed to support a school's obligations under the Australian boarding standard and state food-safety legislation, and are documented for accreditation and audit.

Aligned with the Australian boarding standard
Food service records maintained to support boarding accreditation.

HACCP systems in your kitchen
Our food-safety program, staff training and internal audits operate within the school's kitchen from the first day.

Individual dietary and medical profiles
Anaphylaxis plans, coeliac disease, religious and cultural requirements recorded and managed for each student.

Working with boarding staff
Our team shares observations with boarding staff on eating patterns, hydration and students who may need support.
